THE FIRM Landmarks Design Associates is a full service architectural firm specializing in preservation, rehabilitation, and adaptive use of historic buildings and new construction within existing neighborhoods and districts. Ellis Schmidlapp, Thomas Stevenson, and William Hashinger are the principals of the firm which was founded in 1978 by Mr. Schmidlapp. For over twenty years, the firm has worked with historic properties and compatible new construction in historic environments. LDA has a proven record of revitalizing existing properties and delivering excellent design, winning the firm numerous awards and honors from such organizations as the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, the City of Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation. LDA’s work has included commercial buildings, hotels and inns, single and multi-unit residential projects, museum properties, theatres and lecture halls, educational institutions, and religious properties. Recent projects include the design of a new building on the grounds of the Frick Art and Historical Center for their Car and Carriage collection, restoration of the Greene County Courthouse and the Hollidaysburg Municipal Building, and design of a retail store for the Pittsburgh Symphony Society. Current projects include Creedmore Court retirement residence, Solebury School facility houses and the restoration of the Howe-Childs House at Chatham College. LDA currently employs four registered architects and a support staff. The firm has established relationships with consulting structural, mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as numerous specialized consultants. |
