DUQUESNE INCLINE
Pittsburgh, PA
The $500,000 restoration and
expansion of the upper station of the Duquesne Incline was completed and
opened to the public in May 2004. Working for the Society for the
Preservation of the Duquesne Heights Incline, LDA designed an accessible
viewing platform which enables the public to get a bird’s eye view of the
nineteenth century machinery which operates the incline which until now had
been accessible only by maintenance crews. Visitors can see the
assembly of bull wheels, cables, and motors which operate the incline cars.
In addition, LDA specified the exterior restoration of the station and
designed an addition to provide more space for offices and support
facilities.
