GREENE COUNTY
COURTHOUSE
Waynesburg, PA
The
Greene County Courthouse was constructed in the Greek Revival style in 1851.
Beginning in the 1960’s the County planned for numerous large additions that
were never carried out.
LDA prepared a plan
for restoration of the Courthouse and construction of a modest addition
which served as a backdrop structure, allowing the Courthouse to dominate
the public square as it had for 144 years.
The historic
Courthouse, including the main courtroom, the historic windows, and vaults
was restored. The 15,000 SF addition holds an additional courtroom, judges
quarters, offices and holding cells for the Sheriff, and court related
offices. New electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems were designed for the
entire complex.
The project also
included rehabilitation of the 30,000 SF Ft. Jackson Hotel Building across
the street to act as swing space and consolidate county offices.
